Come From Away Pick of The Day: Red Moon Road

By: Andrew Boyd
Winnipeg’s Red Moon Road are not your typical folk-trio. The band’s unique sound is a mixture of eclectic melodies with hauntingly beautiful undertones and exceptional storytelling. Their songs have a familiarity to them, but not in the sense that you have heard something similar. More-so they illicit a familiar feeling comparable to when you were a child being read a thrilling bedtime story, one that continued into your dreams well after you had fallen asleep. Except these stories also have compelling musical accompaniment as performed by the storyteller’s themselves.
Red Moon Road have been touring relentlessly since the release of their most recent album Sorrow and Glories with visits to 7 countries in the past year. This week they will be performing in NL including an intimate late-night NL Folk Fest performance perfectly paired with St. John’s own Mark Bragg & The Butchers on August 4 before hitting the main stage the following day. Red Moon Road is a band you should treat yourself to seeing this week.
