A bunch of St. John’s finest musicians are coming together for a great cause. They will be pumping out the nostalgia rock all night at The Republic in support of the St. John’s Boys and Girls Clubs. Now in its third year (last year was in support of Amelia Curran’s “It’s Mental”) this event is quickly becoming a Christmas tradition to look forward to every year. Rock Island asked the guys in Hot x Proxy tell us more about the event.
“Now in its third year, Proxing Day: Big Shiny X-mas is a charity event presented by Hot x Proxy on Boxing Day (December 26th) at The Republic in downtown St. John’s. Adding to the Boxing Day Jubilee celebrations that have catered to (at least) two generations of shenanigans junkies, HxP are throwing it back to a time when MuchMusic served it to ya straight. Big Shiny Tunes, a Canadian rock staple in the diets of many, is back for one night only. And what’s more? Hot x Proxy are donating proceeds this year to the St. John’s Boys and Girls Clubs in hopes to offer a helping hand in all the amazing and important things they do for our kids! But, they are NOT alone. Out of the kindness of their hearts and a love for the tunes, HxP are honoured to welcome a star studded pack of Big Shiny All-Stars to help serve this nostalgic cake with the frosting it deserves!
JLAC (of Krock)
Don-E Coady (of 709)
Jordan Coaker (of WaterFront Fire/ Quote the Raven)
Josh Noble (Cabbages and Kings)
Stephen Green (Fairgale)
Andrew Rodgers (Farigale)
Carol Ann Fowler
Big Shiny Tunes turns 20 this year…does that mean we are old? Maybe, but it will sure feel like 1996 on Proxing Day!” - Hot x Proxy.
Tickets cost 15 dollars and will be sold until they sell out. The guys say they expect less then 50 remaining tickets available at the door. Hot x Proxy is backing up the all the singers plus doing a big shiny medley. The band will also perform a short opening set full of old songs, Christmas covers and tragically hip tribute.
