NEW VIDEO + TOUR: JYAY (Hip Hop)
By: Andrew Boyd
JYAY (Jeremy Howell) is a relatively new name to the NL Hip Hop scene, but he certainly is not taking his time to make an impact both at home and nationally. JYAY began focusing on songwriting in 2016 and since then has continued to climb the ranks in the complicated game of Canadian Hip Hip.
In May of 2017, JYAY collaborated with fellow local rhymer OG Simpson to release an EP titled “Progression”. The single “No Way” from that EP, featuring Vickie Doyle, went on win 99.1 HITS FM Battle of the Beats four times consecutively.
JYAY is also currently working closely with industry veteran Kyle Kraft, who was a co-founder of Battle Axe Music. You may recognize the current version of this company as Battleaxe Warriors through which Madchild and Swollen Members still release their music. This connection certainly seems to have contributed to JYAY’s early success as an artist.
Another contributing factor can no doubt be attributed to JYAY’s current collaboration with Vancouver artist Joseph Rose, a noteable figure in the B.C. Hip Hop community and a name quickly gaining popularity across the country. Joseph and JYAY recently released a music video for their song “Breakdown”, which already has over 10,000 views on YouTube. The single has nearly as many streams on Spotify. We’ve featured this video below for your viewing pleasure. The quality is top notch and the video certainly speaks to the professionalism of these artists.
JYAY has a firm foot hold established within the business side of the Hip Hop game as well. He is currently managing all the booking for Joseph Rose who just finished a 42 date tour from Toronto to the west coast. Since then, both J. Rose and JYAY have joined the formidable Mercules for the Atlantic Canada leg of his tour. Mercules has been selling out dates across North America and has several million views on the videos he’s released on YouTube.
